Microexpressions are brief, involuntary facial expressions that occur when a person is consciously trying to conceal all signs of how they are feeling, or when a person does not consciously know how they are feeling.
They typically last between 1/25th to 1/5th of a second and express one of the seven universal emotions: anger, contempt, disgust, fear, happiness, sadness, and surprise.
Learning to detect microexpressions can improve your emotional intelligence, communication skills, and ability to understand others' true feelings.
